I am delighted to announce that I am representing Macedonia at the 55th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. I have been appointed by the Ministry of Culture in Macedonia to present an exhibition of new work in Venice between 1st June and 24th November 2013 (with the press and preview between 29 May and 31 May 2013). I am working with Ana Frangovska, curator at the National Gallery of Macedonia.

Venice – week 3

Beginning of week 3 – I have all my family helping to create this part of the project. Things are bit stressful for everyone at home. I had to stop production and ask them to start over again. The first section (below) was not right. Although, I knew deep down, I was hoping that mixing the pentagons and hexagons would be fine, but it didn’t really work. So I’ve asked all to start from the beginning.

End of week 3 – With Vesna, Daniela, my mum, my dad and my mum’s friends, Marija, Cveta, Violeta, and uncle Pero’s drawings we have a success the work is now moving into the right direction, looks great and I am very pleased, thank you to all my brilliant team.

Venice – week 2

End of week 2 – we are all still making major mistakes. Together with the help of uncle Pero, (the architect) we developed a drawing of a pattern for everyone to follow. To make things slightly easier we changed the shape of the form, we started with pentagon and moved to hexagon. I have to return back to England and really worried of how the work will develop from here. Vesna and Daniela have to take over and keep an eye on my mum, my dad and Marija (mum’s friend) to make sure there are not further mistakes and everyone is on target…..

I am representing Macedonia in Venice

I am delighted to announce that I am representing Macedonia at the 55th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. I have been appointed by the Ministry of Culture in Macedonia to present an exhibition of new work in Venice between 1st June and 24th November 2013 (with the press and preview between 29 May and 31 May 2013). The Venice Biennale is the most prestigious international visual arts festival in the world. Established in 1895 the visual art Biennale is the longest running public not for profit (although sales are now encouraged) festival which has hosted exhibitions by all of the worlds most highly regarded artists. Macedonia’s first participation at the Venice Biennale was in 1993, following independence from Yugoslavia in 1992, which followed the initial Balkan conflict of 1989/92. Today the Biennale includes exhibitions of work by high caliber artists from around the world, organised into three sections; National Pavilions (89 in 2011) where cultural organisations curate selected artist(s) in the Giardini and in venues around the city; The Biennale’s invited Director (Massimiliani Gioni in 2013) who will curate a major international exhibition in the Italian Pavilion and the Arsenale; and the Collateral Events where cultural institutions from around the world propose projects and events for the Biennale, and which are hosted in venues around the city.
